Yeasmin was one of the first students to be admitted into OBAT’s Rangpur School. She completed her primary/elementary education from the school in 2012, becoming the first and only student at that time to receive an A+, also known locally as a golden GPA. Yeasmin has been receiving a scholarship from OBAT since then and nurturing her dream of becoming a doctor. Undeterred by the many obstacles she encountered over the years, Yeasmin just got very close to achieving her dream- her recent admission to Prime Medical College in Rangpur has proven that grit and hard work can make your aspirations come to life.
Yeasmin lives in Ispahani Camp in Alamnagar Rangpur with her family of five. Her mother is the sole bread winner and works hard as daily laborer to make ends meet.
In December 2012, a brutal fire broke out in the Ispahani Camp. More than 300 camp homes were burnt. On that devastating night, Yeasmin fled her home with her grandmother and her most prized possession-the identification card which would allow her admission to her secondary/middle school board exams. The fire robbed her family of their home, forcing them to live under the open sky for weeks.
The following year, Yeasmin received admission to Lions School and College, one of the best schools in Rangpur, where she passed both her JSC and SSC national board exams (exams taken at end of 8th and 10th grade respectively), with an A+ grade. Thanks to her brilliance and excellent results, she became the youngest teacher at OBAT’s Tutoring Center in Rangpur. Her excellent academic performance was illustrated by another A+ grade in her HSC or 12th grade board exams. Yeasmin also volunteered with OBAT’s Think Tank in Rangpur where she served as the General Secretary.
Staying focused on her goal, Yeasmin took the national admission test for medical school in 2020 Even though she was not selected, Yeasmin didn’t give up and took the test for a second time, receiving a much better result. However, she didn’t get selected again for admission into a government college due to the limited seats available. Undeterred, she started applying in private universities for a scholarship, eventually receiving one from Prime Medical College and Hospital. Yeasmin’s happiness knows no bounds. She is grateful to her mother for always motivating and encouraging her to study, despite not receiving an education herself, and to OBAT’s team and donors for giving her the opportunity to realize her dream.
