Today in our OBAT’s Star of the week I want to tell you the story of Raju, currently living in Geneva Camp, Dhaka.

He completed his degree scoring 3.20 out of 4.00 from Dhaka College under the Open University. Before this, he has completed his SSC (Secondary School Certificate) scoring 2.80 out of 5.00 and his HSC (High School Certificate) scoring 3.00 out of 5.00 under the Open University.

Currently, he is working in a company named Wahyd Bangladesh Limited, as an operation in charge. The company is a USA based organization and provides online transport services through smartphone applications.

“I couldn’t think of my current position without the assistance of OBAT and the support of my friends. My friends were also connected and they inspired me to become a volunteer of OBAT. So as a volunteer I achieved a lot of experience. I became a volunteer in the year 2008 when OBAT started their activities in Dhaka, and I was one of the first volunteers there.

At that time, I was in financial problems for which I wasn’t able to continue my education because I was a handicraft worker, my income was very small and I had to support my family through my income. OBAT gave me the scholarship to admit in Open University so I could continue my studies and work at the same time.

I completed SSC and HSC respectively. At that time the handicraft business was not running well, I had to face lots of difficulties in leading my life. After a few months, I got a job at PARAA studio as a Project Facilitator in Camp Mapping and Survey funded by OBAT Helpers. After working there for two years I got an opportunity to represent our work in front of Anwar Khan Sir (The founder & President of OBAT Helpers).

After that presentation, I got a chance to visit other cities in Bangladesh where OBAT is working such as Saidpur, Rangpur, Khulna, and Bogura. This trip was the turning point of my life and I gained lots of knowledge from this journey. I am thanking Almighty Allah for making me part of that trip. The trip had a significant contribution to my life, I cannot think of my current situation without this trip.

In February 2016, I got a job in OBAT as a Project Officer in Dhaka. I have gained lots of formal skills and experience. My life skills improved with the guidance of Anwar Sir, his leadership enhanced my public speaking ability, improved my English and computer skills.

I became a complete package and now I can utilize my experience in my current job field. Still, I am associated with OBAT. As I am the part of this Urdu Speaking Community, I am familiar with most of the problems that a camp resident faces in daily life. I am honored to take part in community development work through OBAT. I got the opportunity to work in education, sanitation, health, community awareness, youth awareness, and OBAT Think Tank sectors”.

Now for everyone’s great prayers, I got admitted to Law & Business department. And my aim is to work as a business consultant, as I am experienced in the corporate sector and I am willing to move forward in the business sector.

Thanks to Anwar Sir, each member and the donors of OBAT, who are working to transform the lives of camp people. Thank you for helping us to achieve our dreams.
