How one OBAT Star is Pursuing his Dream & Giving Back
Since Sobuj was just a child, he dreamt of becoming a professional cricket player. For a boy living in the camps, this was not only a big dream, but an incredibly difficult one to achieve. With many camp families struggling to make ends meet, young children working to supplement their parents’ meager income, and schools with few resources or athletic programs for the youth… becoming a cricket player was a tall order. But Sobuj would not let any of those challenges quell his dreams and with OBAT’s support and his own fierce dedication to the sport, he is on his way to becoming a champion cricket player!
To help him on his journey, OBAT supported Sobuj’s education and arranged for his admission into the Dhaka City Club so that he could have the tools, mentors, and resources he needed to practice hard and learn the sport. Today, with incredible dedication and lots of practice, Sobuj is now famous in his locality for his impressive cricket skills.
In appreciation for the amazing impact this experience continues to have on his life, Sobuj now runs the cricket team for the children in Rangpur’s OBAT School. His team of 20 girls took part in the “Women Dreamer Cricket Academi – 2020,” and his team of 56 boys continues to excel and thrive.
Cricket is a real blessing in the lives of Sobuj and all the camp residents who participate. It builds confidence, improves physical and emotional health, cultivates camaraderie and community, and instills a sense of hope and accomplishment in the youth, so that they have the courage to continue to strive and work toward their dreams.
