“At that moment I thought I might not continue my studies anymore and that I will start working. But then, Mr. Anwar Khan visited our camp and asked me about my goals and visions. Then he told me: “You need to not worry about expenses and problems. You just work hard, I am with you”.
Nowshad Alam is from New relief Camp, Rangpur, Bangladesh. He has completed his graduation and post-graduation from the Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka, which is one of the most reputed and top-ranked universities in Bangladesh.
“The problem arose when I started secondary school. My father was a day labor and was the only earning member among 9 members of my family, so he couldn’t bear my educational expenses. At that moment I thought I might not continue my studies anymore and that I will start working. But then, Mr. Anwar Khan visited our camp and asked me about my goals and visions. Then he told me: “You need to not worry about expenses and problems. You just work hard, I am with you”.
That one sentence gave me courage and strength. I started working even harder.
In 2009, I appeared in my SSC exam and I got a Golden GPA 5.00 and obtained the 128th position of almost 0.35 million students. In 2011, I got a Golden GPA 5.00 and attain 3rd position among almost 0.18 million students in my education board.
After my HSC exam, I got the change to admit to the University of Dhaka. About 75,000 students appeared in the entrance exam for only 1500 seats. I was one of those 1500 students who passed the entrance exam with good marks.
Now, I have completed my graduation and post-graduation and I am planning for higher studies. At the same time, I have participated in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam a few days ago in which almost 0.4 million students participated and only 20 thousand could pass the preliminary stage, including me in those 20 thousand.
Among my achievements I can mention that I got a government Scholarship for obtaining 128th position in my SSC examination, I also achieved another government scholarship for obtaining 3rd position in my HSC examination, I obtained the 2nd position in the entrance exam to Rangpur Zilla School and got the opportunity to be the first student from camps of Bangladesh to study Chemistry in Dhaka University, where I did my thesis work on evaluation of toxic effect of heavy metal salts on human body”.
