Wondering how this day went? We arrived in Rangpur at night and started our tour early in the morning. First, we went to our preschool project at Huda camp and Ispahani camp No. 2, Rangpur with our OBAT Team. We currently have six preschools in Rangpur with a total of one hundred and thirty-three students. The best part of visiting our education programs is seeing how eager the students are to share their talent and school work with us.
While we were in camp No. 2, we were happy to visit three incredible OBAT students. First, we had the honor of visiting Abul Kashem and his parents. As the first medical student from these camps in the last 45 years, Abul Kashem has a year and a half remaining in his medical education. We’ve shared his story with you before, but we cannot emphasize enough the strength and courage found within Abul Kashem. He has broken barriers and tested limits in ways we haven’t seen before. Second, we were glad to visit Mohammed Shobuj who is in the under eighteen cricket district team with hopes of joining the national cricket team. He is a very talented sportsman and student, and we look forward to helping his dreams of being part of the national team come true. Third, we visited Prity who is going to start tenth grade. Along with being a bright student, Prity is also very talented in handicrafts and has trained her classmates as well. She recently lost her father, but we are polishing her skill sets and helping her develop into a budding entrepreneur.
We began our computer training in 2010 and every year, more than one hundred students are graduating from various programs. We are glad to serve teachers of tutoring centers as well as students of eighth and tenth grade who join our course after completion of their board examinations. Our computer training center in Rangpur is currently teaching courses in Microsoft Office, Adobe, Photoshop and is now adding an outsourcing course. OBAT’s COO, Immad Ahmed, will guide these students with further training and resources.
We were glad to inaugurate the newly constructed female bathroom in the New Relief (NRC) camp that supports twenty families (around one hundred and twenty camp residents). We joined in on the paralegal meeting, held by two OBAT Primary School teachers/lawyers who have recently completed their law degrees, Rubaida and Mukta. They are providing counsel on legal matters, women’s rights and helping them acquire birth certificates, death certificates, national ID cards and other relevant legal services.
OBAT Health Care Center yearly serves more than 5,000 patients. Dr. Rezwan Khan, Abul Kashem, Immad and the local team paid a visit to our OBAT Health Care Center. We visited with patients, checked the registration books, and visited the pharmacy. Upon talking to Dr. Suraiya Jabeen regarding continuous improvement of our facilities and services, we are planning to address the need for additional waiting room facilities and more staff support.
Lastly, we were able to visit the OBAT tutoring center where we serve more than one hundred and eight students from grade 8-10, some of whom were gearing up for exams. We wish our students the best of luck!
We are also happy to report that Lipi, whose story was included in the Day six account, has received the required funds to register for HSC.
