Children who grow up in camps are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to attaining the education and training they need access to real career opportunities. Camp resources are minimal and too often residents are relegated to low-paying, menial work, leaving them stuck in the cycle of poverty for generations to come. But OBAT’s Computer Training Centers have been changing the fate of thousands of camp families by offering motivated camp youth the training and support they need for real empowerment.
Thanks to the hard work and generosity of our amazing OBAT supporters in California and Washington state, OBAT Computer Training Centers have received 52 computers to help support the education, growth, and empowerment of our camp youth!
This is a true blessing because, as the world grapples with managing this global pandemic, and education shifts to a heavily digital platform, the need for access to computer learning in the camps has never been higher. Through this generous gift, students attending our Computer Training Centers will have more access to fundamental courses and programs like Microsoft Office, Khan Academy, Graphic Design, Digital Marketing, Video Editing, and many more. Several of these courses are especially important for finding work as freelancers, which is an ideal opportunity for many of our talented camp residents.
We are so grateful for this gift to the camps and look forward to expanding access to digital tools and training for our camp communities.
