Collecting books and food for Sense Charter School is how we are celebrating Natl Philanthropy day. Come, join us!

Join us as we collect gently used books for first to 6th graders at the Sense Charter School so the school can start a library for its students. A school without a library, where kids don’t have recourse to books is a shame and goes against the institution’s principles of fostering learning.   Sense School also needs to stock its food pantry which exists to help the students’ families, most of whom are in a position to greatly benefit from it. 89%...

Who else to thank on National Philanthropy Day but our…

DONORS! Where do we even start with this one? Suffice it to say that, without them, OBAT could not exist. They are our lifeblood, our backbone. Their commitment to help stranded and afflicted Biharis living thousands of miles away, people whom they haven’t met and seen and most likely never will, is colossal. They are people who really want to make the world a better place and we are fortunate that they chose OBAT as the vessel for their altruism. Dear...

Shabera, with her parents. Twenty year old Shabera lives in Geneva camp in Dhaka with her parents and two brothers. Her father drives a rickshaw for a living while her mother is a home-maker. The younger brother could only study up to grade four as the family could not afford to send him to school. Shabera tried to seek help from AWARD, a...

Day 6 of November thank yous- Thankful for wonderful partners- Sense Charter School

On this day, we say thank you to Sense Charter School for being a great partner. As OBAT’s beneficiary for its local project, “Rehma,” Sense has provided OBAT with the opportunity to contribute in the local community. OBAT finances tutors who provide tutoring to struggling students at the school. Most of the children at the Sense School are in need of assistance, financial and otherwise.   OBAT is also initiating a pen pal program between the 2nd graders at Sense and those...

Day 5 of November thank yous- Thankful for inspiring OBAT students

Twenty one year old Arshi was born in Geneva Camp. She still lives there with six other family members in a small hut. Her father’s job as an office assistant only got her as far as high school, where her studies were concerned. When Arshi witnessed her father’s predicament to make ends meet, she dropped out of undergraduate studies. Knowing that she was keen to study and was a very bright student, her father approached OBAT and requested...

Celebrate the upcoming National Philanthropy day with us! November 13th, the National Philanthropy day, is only a few days away. But we are thinking, why not celebrate the entire month of November instead of just one day to pay tribute to the spirit of charity all around us. A part of our celebration is to give back a little more. Join us as we collect gently used books for first to 6th graders at the Sense Charter School so the school can...

Day 3 of November thank yous- Katie Basbagill

There could not be a more unique individual gracing this earth than Katie Basbagill.  Unorthodox, passionate, effervescent and endearingly funny, Katie is true to the name of her photographic venture, “Bohemian Red Images-” Bohemian and red (hair) included. Her adventure through life as a photojournalist takes her to places like Cambodia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe, where she photographs victims of natural and political calamities and tells their tales to the world through her work. Our paths crossed at an event at...
