Up until last year, OBAT’s mission was centered mainly on helping the stranded Bihari’s eking out a miserable living in camps in Bangladesh since the last 40 years. Since 2005, OBAT has been trying to reconstruct and reform their lives by empowering them with education, income earning opportunities and offering them basic amenities of life. OBAT Helpers and The Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind (also known as Sight Savers) have teamed up to perform eye surgeries for camp residents. Bangladesh has a very high level of avoidable blindness, and levels are particularly high in the ultra-poor sectors of the community.
