Women in the camps have access to virtually zero opportunities to earn an income. Many of them make paper bags for a living which brings in very little to support their families. OBAT’s sewing training centers have been changing that by enabling the women to learn the skills of sewing and embroidery, so that the camp women can launch their own home-based sewing businesses.
However, not owning a sewing machine often acts as a barrier to this incredible opportunity. To pave their path to empowerment, seven sewing machines were recently gifted to graduates from OBAT’s sewing training center in Chittagong and the surrounding camp area of Halishaher. We are so excited for these hard working women to begin building a stronger future for themselves and their families.
