Five sewing machines were distributed to deserving women in Chittagong this July. One of them was a woman named Putul.
Like many girls who live in the camps, Putal’s parents married her off at a very young age. Misfortune struck as both she and her sister underwent a divorce. The two now share a home together.
Putul worked in a garments factory for many years until facing health issues no longer allowed her to, and she had to leave the job.
In 2016, her first sewing machine changed the course of her life. Putal was gifted a sewing machine by OBAT’s Think Tank volunteers, who bought it by collecting money from the group. Today, Putul is 36 years old and lives in SB Nagar Camp in Chittagong.
After she received the sewing machine from Think Tank, she started sewing clothes and taking orders from tailoring shops. However, they paid her very little, and she also had to incur a significant expense for getting the overlocking work done from other sources.
Now, OBAT has gifted her with a new overlock machine. This has cut her costs significantly and has enabled her to make a greater profit.
“I will never forget OBAT and OBAT Think Tank for their help and support toward my family. I pray for the donors from the depths of my heart,” said Putal.
We are cheering for Putal as she continues in her craft!
