Victory Day Celebrations Bring Joy to the Camps

This year, Bangladesh’s Annual Victory Day celebrations on December 16th were curtailed by the ongoing pandemic. Normally, the streets would be bright with festivities, parades, and excited people – but this year, the country was modestly quiet as celebrations took on a more cautious approach. In the camps, similarly, activities were more subdued, but the day did not pass without some commemorating amongst camp residents.

This year, OBAT’s Tutoring Center in Khulna put on a series of exciting plays produced by their teacher to entertain the community. Additionally, Syedpur School held a competitive badminton tournament among its High School, Back to School, and Think Tank students. The grade 6 girls team took home the championship amongst the Highschool students, and the grade 8 boys team were proud to take home the trophy for the Back To School program.

A great deal of fun and friendly competition were had by all and the activities brought a sense of joy and light-heartedness to the camps as they finished out a difficult year.
